The wind beneath my ears

Tuesday, August 10

A quiet day. Everyone is much more relaxed now. I should say, “we the people” are more relaxed. I think McCoy has one overriding mode of behavior – totally calm.

My camera was still out of whack when McCoy ventured into my studio and discovered another dog. It wasn’t really another dog – it was the mirror. I was a little reluctant to spoil his fun until I realized the mirror wasn’t attached to the wall yet. It was a tussle, but I did manage to separate him from his “new friend.”
Advice: Have pet? Always have camera ready. Oh yeah, and secure the mirror.

I don't wanna, I don't hafta, I ain't gonna

We started to get concerned because McCoy wasn’t eating. He didn’t seem interested in food at all. He would smell it and walk away. His teeth are really deteriorated due to poor food and care. Tanya said we could go ahead and give him canned food. Geoff brought some home, and oh, my gosh. For a dog who didn’t act hungry or in any way deprived, he sure got into the soft stuff.

Sunshine on my forehead makes me sleepy

Another quiet night. Slept like a baby – all of us.
Wednesday. August 11
<spacer>
Today we got word that McCoy will go to the beach tomorrow. As cool as that sounds, it really isn’t. He will spend Thursday and most of Friday at the clinic. Poor little guy has a few problems. The good people over at the St. Pete Beach Vet Clinic who take care of the
Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue pups will give him the works: neuter, teeth, cherry eye, and HW treatment.

McCoy will be ready for a new home and new people when he gets to the rescue shelter. If anybody out there feels like they need more love in their life, this is the “real” McCoy!

Love is a very splendid thing

Check back on Saturday for an update on the beach non-party. We will make sure he is calm and comfortable when he gets back, He may need some special pampering. I think we can handle that.

Dear Foster Mom
<spacer>
There I sat, alone and afraid.
You got a call and came right to my aid.
You bundled me up with blankets and love.
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.

I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold.
That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.
You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.
You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.

And just when I thought you’d done all you do,
There came along not one new lesson, but two.
First you said, “Sweetheart, you’re ready to go.
I’ve done all I can, and you’ve learned all I know.”

Then you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss.
Along came a new family, they even have kids!
They took me to their home, forever to stay.
At first I thought you sent me away.

Then that second lesson became perfectly clear.
No matter how far, you will always be near.
And so, Foster Mom, you know I’ve moved on.
I have a new home, with toys and a lawn.

But I’ll never forget what I learned that first day.
You never really give your fosters away.
You gave me these thoughts to remember you by.
We may never meet again, and now I know why.

You’ll remember I lived with you for a time.
I may not be yours, but you’ll always be mine.

Pets are more than just Christmas presents. They are forever. They believe in you, appreciate you, and give you unconditional love. If you have spent a lot of time and consideration to adopting a pet – now is a perfect time.
